A situation today has powerfully reinforced negative stereotypes most Americans have of Liberal Democrats. The event I'm talking about is President Bush suggesting that Obama and the Democrats might "appease" our enemies - which has set off a fire storm of hysterical bitching and whining among Liberals that somehow this is an unfair, unpatriotic, even treasonous comment.
Here is my point. With challenger brands there comes a time where events synchronize in a manner that present a rare opportunity to compare and contrast your brand against the leading brand. Liberal Democrats today had an opportunity to compare and contrast their policies of engagement to those of the Bush administration.
Many Americans, including this one, feel Liberals will appease our adversaries - a feeling based upon our prior experience with their polices and their leaders. So if this isn't the case, then tell us why President Bush is wrong. Compare and contrast your polices with the Bush administration's. Most importantly, demonstrate to me that if you're in power, and one of our adversaries slaps you - you won't be reduced to a quivering, whiny mass of ineffective policies and tactics.
Which is where Steve Jobs comes in. Apple has done a masterful job with the PC/MAC campaign where they use current events to compare and contrast Apple to Microsoft. I'd love to see what Steve Jobs would have done today had he been running the Obama campaign.
